Apple has agreed to pay out $24.9 million to the Dynamic Advances, licensee of US7177798, Natural language interface using constrained intermediate dictionary of results. They allege that Apple infringes with its Siri voice command tool.

 The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C has just overturned a judgement awardign a total of $116 million to Apple. Five different apple patents were asserted by Apple in this case, but $99 million out of the $120 mlllion judgement was in relation to just one patent, being US5946647, filed in 1996 and with just 7 published backward patent citations.

Cluster Searching has been designed by patent searchers, and is aimed at patent searchers - in particular as a  "Second Opinion Engine"  - where it uses advanced network citation analysis to find similar patents to the patents you are looking at.

There are a number of applications for this, including in patent litigation. There are of course many ways of looking for prior art, including the 'crowd-sourcing' techniques developed by the likes of Article One and others. So we wondered - how would the improved version of Cluster Searching work on a prior art study promoted by Article One?
